As American football great Vince Lombardi once said – “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” That famous quote certainly applies to Sunshine Coast Lightning goal shooter Peace Proscovia who produced a near-flawless display during the weekend’s #TeamGirls Cup pre-season tournament in Brisbane.
The Ugandan recruit netted 84 goals from 88 attempts to help steer the Lightning to a third place finish at the inaugural event. Her outstanding haul included 100% shooting against the Vixens (21 from 21) and Giants (23 from 23), impressing coach Noeline Taurua.
“It doesn’t surprise me to be honest, that’s why we recruited her and what we saw when she played in the Commonwealth Games and there’s so much upside to her,” Taurua said.
“Slowly, as every week’s gone on, she’s become more comfortable in our environment and it’s about her being confident and playing her own game.”
The Lightning won three of their four matches across the tournament, including an impressive 46-44 triumph over 2019 title favourites the Giants in yesterday’s playoff for third.
“I’m clearer now on combinations. We haven’t started strategy or anything like that so it’s quite promising, (there is) a lot to go to mould it together but it’s promising,” Taurua said.
The Lightning’s quest for a third consecutive Suncorp Super Netball premiership starts in Melbourne on Saturday April 27 against pre-season tournament winners the Magpies.
