A short film series aimed at challenging stereotypes about ageing is set to be bigger and bolder in 2020, with ten inspiring Queensland stories to be brought to life as documentaries.
The B.OLD 2020: be B.OLDer film series follows on from last year’s successful B.OLD Short Film Competition, which led to the creation of eight short films that were screened across Queensland to rave reviews.
Minister for Seniors Coralee O’Rourke has opened entries for B.OLD 2020, inviting Queenslanders to share local stories that challenge stereotypes of ageing.
“People, community groups and organisations across the state are proving age is no barrier and we’re asking Queenslanders to find and share these local stories,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“Ten storytellers will receive a $1000 grant and get the opportunity to work with industry professionals to bring their stories to life as short documentaries.
“We’re calling on all Queenslanders to submit stories that feature older people actively engaged in all aspects of community life — as volunteers, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs or employees.
“We also want to highlight stories that show the importance of intergenerational connections, celebrate Queensland’s diversity, and feature individuals, groups or events in regional and remote settings.
“The B.OLD 2020: be B.OLDer film series is about showcasing real people, events and initiatives that demonstrate the capabilities and contributions of older people.”
The films will be screened around Queensland as part of Seniors celebrations in August.
Mrs O’Rourke said the initiative was created to help eliminate stereotypes and limiting assumptions about ageing.
“B.OLD 2020: be B.OLDer short films are one way we’re helping to ensure Queensland’s communities are fairer and more inclusive for everyone,” she said.
