Sign up for Sunshine Coast free wellbeing project

Sunshine Coast Council is proud to be the first organisation to partner with internationally renowned lifestyle medicine expert Dr Darren Morton to provide The Lift Project – a free 10-week online wellbeing program that will be available for every Sunshine Coast resident from mid-May.

The Lift Project Sunshine Coast – lift your mood and your life – is a holistic, comprehensive, evidence-based, online educational and preventative adventure that draws together the latest research from Neuroscience, Lifestyle Medicine and Positive Psychology, and is designed to help people get more out of their lives.

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said council had taken a proactive step in the interests of every local resident’s mental wellbeing during and after the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We know Lifeline and Beyond Blue have seen a significant increase* in requests for help during March due to COVID-19,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Council’s Sunshine Coast Community Strategy recognises that strong social connections, relationships and trust within our communities contributes to improving overall health and wellbeing.

“What better way to respond to this at this time than through The Lift Project Sunshine Coast, which complements and extends on council’s Covid Kindness initiative.

“Our community’s resilience is so important, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and as we move into and through the recovery phase.

“So there is an opportunity for Sunshine Coast residents to register now for this terrific program which is being offered free of charge.”

Dr Darren Morton said The Lift Project had been 15 years in the making and he was pleased to partner with council.

“Sunshine Coast Council expressed a genuine interest in doing something positive for the mental wellbeing of its community and so this idea of offering The Lift Project to an entire community was born. I am very excited about the potential,” Dr Morton said.

“The science is very clear that there are many simple but powerful things we can do to feel better on a daily basis.

“The Lift Project presents these strategies in a fun and experiential way and there is no better time to discover them.

“My hope is that Sunshine Coast residents get involved for themselves and their families, and in doing so, lift their mood and their lives.”

The Lift Project Sunshine Coast is suitable for people of all ages including our leaders of tomorrow – teenagers, mums and dads and seniors.

From May 18, residents who have registered will receive the program in 10 weekly emails with topics including: learning about the “emotional brain”, why activity and being outdoors is crucial, the importance of community, boosting your emotional wellbeing, eating healthy, taking time out, establishing work-life balance and what it takes to flourish.

Sunshine Coast residents are encouraged to register as soon as possible for this wellbeing educational adventure here:

Registration is a quick and easy process and only requires people to enter their current residential address, and provide their email details.

*Beyond Blue indicated at the end of March they had seen a 30 per cent increase in calls and emails, and Lifeline reported March as its busiest month on record
