Independent Schools Queensland has welcomed the signing of the National School Reform Agreement and associated bilateral agreement by the Queensland and Australian Governments yesterday (December 13).

ISQ Executive Director David Robertson said the signed agreement guaranteed independent schools would receive their federal funding entitlements in 2019.

“The funding of independent schools is a partnership between the Federal and State Governments and parents, with the Federal Government providing the majority of public funding for schools in the sector,” Mr Robertson said.

“Independent schools can now commence the 2019 school year with financial certainty and confidence to implement the education programs and initiatives that will deliver the best possible outcomes for all students.”

The Agreement provides for a record level of Australian Government funding of $66 billion over 10 years for all Queensland schools.

Mr Robertson said independent schools acknowledged the strong advocacy of state Education Minister Grace Grace and her efforts to secure the best possible funding outcomes for all Queensland students.

“I also acknowledge, on behalf of the independent sector, the record funding being provided by the Australian Government and the role of Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan in securing this critical investment in school education,” he said.

Mr Robertson said ISQ looked forward to working collaboratively with the Australian and Queensland Governments to progress the range of national reform priorities detailed in the Agreement.

“The independent sector, which comprises 205 schools educating 121,000 students, will continue to work in close cooperation with the Queensland Government to achieve the specific state-based reform priorities outlined in the Agreement.”
