Statement from LNP Shadow Transport Minister Steve Minnikin: Mark Bailey's own goal on Sunshine Coast rail project

Published:

"Mark Bailey's foolish blame game merely puts Labor's failure to fund the Sunshine Coast rail duplication in the spotlight.

"The Federal LNP Government committed $390 million to duplicating the region's rail line, which is half the cost of the project.

"The state LNP committed to matching the Federal Government's $390m if we win the 2020 election because we understand how crucial this infrastructure project is for the Sunshine Coast.

"The Palaszczuk Labor Government is stalling the project by only offering to fund 20 per cent of its cost.

"More than $170 million has been wasted by the Labor Palaszczuk Government on Rail Fail.

"This money could have made a major contribution to the Sunshine Coast rail line if it wasn't wasted by Labor.

"While Mark Bailey is starving the Sunshine Coast rail project of funding, his Labor party is paying 100 per cent of the costs for their $5.4 billion rail tunnel in Brisbane.

"Sunshine Coast commuters deserve better leadership from a Transport Minister obsessed with petty politics.

"This important public transport project will increase services and take traffic off the Bruce Highway.

"It's only the LNP at state and federal level that are committed to the Sunshine Coast and building this project.

"The way Mark Bailey handles the Transport portfolio is an embarrassment and he should tender his resignation."
