Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) State Club Championships.

In excess of 1,000 talented gymnasts from across Queensland and beyond will descend on the Sunshine Coast to represent their club in the annual State Club Championships between 29 June and 3 July.

Talented gymnasts from over 30 clubs around Queensland – including Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Academy, YMCA Caloundra Gymnastics Club, Maroochy Beach Gymnastics and Cooroy Gymnastics Club – will take to the floor, with the winning club being crowned the State Club Champions.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the annual Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) State Club Championships would be held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium, with the much-anticipated Border Challenge competition and Special Olympics also scheduled as part of the event.

“Being a team format, the State Club Championships will give competitors the opportunity to learn from one another, show their team spirit and develop teamwork skills.”

“These highly skilled athletes will take to apparatus such as the vault, rings, parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse, uneven bars and balance beam as well as completing floor routines throughout the event.”

Ms Dowdell said that the hotly contested Border Challenge will see clubs from Western Australia, ACT, New South Wales and Victoria battle it out with our home grown Queensland talent.

“Taking place on the Friday and Saturday of the event, gymnasts will compete with friendly rivalry to prove which state is strongest,” said Ms Dowdell.

“Our Queensland gymnasts will be keen to defend their 2017 title as overall team winners but I’m sure the other states have been training hard to win the title for themselves.”

Ms Dowdell said fifteen Queensland athletes would also participate in the Special Olympics events being held on the Sunday of competition.

“The Special Olympics sees athletes with an intellectual disability showcase their gymnastics prowess and this year will see an increase in gymnasts in this category,” Ms Dowdell said.

Taking place during Queensland school holidays, Ms Dowdell said that with so many high-energy routines on display, the event will provide plenty of action and entertainment for spectators.

“We encourage members of the public to come along and watch our talented and skilled gymnasts in action, it will truly be a spectacle.”

“Entry is free for children under 18, with adult tickets available at the door and starting from just $10 per session.”

The Gymnastics Queensland WAG and MAG State Club Championships and Border Challenge will be held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium, North Street, Golden Beach on Friday, 29 June – Tuesday, 3 July.
