Stockland’s Aura continues to cater to the community’s growing number of furry friends, with a new “fear-free” animal hospital set to call Aura’s $215 million business park home.
The ground-breaking concept by Sebastian Olasek and Annabel Shepherd, the team behind Chancellor Park Vet Surgery, aims to reduce an animal’s fear and anxiety around veterinary visits through a variety of fear-free measures.
Scheduled to open in October 2020, the first-of-its-kind clinic on the Sunshine Coast will include separate cat and dog waiting areas, consulting rooms and hospital wards, with soundproofing throughout to help reduce stress in all animal patients. In line with Aura’s sustainability credentials, the innovative clinic has also installed solar panels spelling out “vet” on its rooftop.
Matthew Byrne, senior economic development manager at Stockland, said the two-storey veterinary clinic was a welcomed initiative for the animal-loving Aura community.
“With almost 70 per cent of residents in the community pet owners, Aura is fast becoming the pet capital of the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Byrne said.
“After the opening of our newest, fully-fenced dog park in Nirimba, and with another opening soon in Baringa, the new clinic is an exciting addition to the community and to our growing business precinct.”
Annabel Shepherd, co-owner and operator of Aura Veterinary Hospital, said the new clinic would provide revolutionary animal care for Aura’s 5,000 residents and their furry friends.
“Our new clinic will complement our current practice in Chancellor Park and the adjacent emergency centre. In time we plan to grow our Aura practice to offer preventative health care, medical, dentistry, imaging, surgical and after-hours services,” Mrs Shepherd said.
“Being fear-free means all animals are handled in a gentle, force-free manner, with plenty of treats to make the visit a more positive experience. We use calming pheromones and special music, and for particularly fearful animals, we offer natural and pharmaceutical products to make the visit to make for a much calmer and happier experience for both pet and owner.”
Aura Business Park is conveniently located adjacent to the Bells Creek Arterial Road within the future city of Aura, and is designed to accommodate a range of uses including light industry, warehousing, manufacturing and bulky goods as well as showrooms, commercial office space, indoor sports and recreation facilities.
