The 2018 Mayoral Ball proved to be another stunning success with the gala event raising $67,000 to support the work of local children’s charity SunnyKids as well as a number of other local organisations.
In its three years, the Mayoral Ball has now raised almost $250,000 to help community causes on the Sunshine Coast.
This year’s gala event took place in mid-October at Aussie World’s The Shed which was transformed into a 1920s themed Ritz Ballroom with leading Australian stage and screen performer James Millar as Master of Ceremonies.
SunnyKids patron Mayor Mark Jamieson thanked the many volunteers, suppliers, auction and raffle prize donors and the event’s Foundation Partners including SunCentral, HRM and Headland Business Park who provided significant financial support to the event.
“I would particularly like to acknowledge the collective effort of Karen Neuendorf and her dedicated committee who have worked tirelessly over the past three years to host this annual event and ensure it has become such a great success,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“This was the third annual Mayoral Ball and each year it seems to get bigger and better, there were many highlights this year and one of the standouts was the stirring presentation from 2016 Suncoast Citizen of the year Chappy Dave who outlined the important role that he and SunnyKids play in our community.
“I am certain that SunnyKids will really appreciate the funding injection from this event and in keeping with the tradition of the Mayoral Ball we’ve also been able to donate proceeds from the night to Suncoast Legal Services, Uniforms 4 Kids as well continuing our student bursary at the University of the Sunshine Coast.”
SunnyKids president Karen Neuendorf said the Mayoral Ball was a stunning and elegant event which delivered on all of the expectations of her committee.
“It’s been an honour to chair the Mayoral Ball Committee and I’m thrilled to announce that the event has raised nearly $250,000 over the past three years,” Karen said.
“That’s an incredible amount of money and we couldn’t have done it without the efforts of our hard working committee along with significant support from the local community.
“Best of all, the feedback from many of the 350 attendees has been really positive which was really rewarding considering the hard work of our event planners who transformed The Shed into a stunning version of The Ritz Ballroom.
“The Mayoral Ball sold out six weeks early and that level of support indicates that there is a strong desire from the local community to dig deep and support those in need. The benchmark set by SunnyKids is extremely high and going by the growing popularity of this event I am certain that it has now become the ‘must attend’ event on the Sunshine Coast social calendar.”
