Sun shines on renovated Sunshine Beach Surf Club

The new and improved Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club is officially open, boosting local jobs and helping the Noosa community to swim, surf and socialise in safety.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the upgrade would support club operations, community gatherings, functions and events in the heart of the Noosa community.

"The existing ground and first floor structures were demolished and rebuilt to make way for a new bar and dining area, office spaces, training rooms and an outdoor terrace," Mr McCormack said.

"This upgrade secures the future of the clubhouse, which was first built in 1983 and has suffered many years of harsh weather."

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O'Brien said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government's $2.5 million investment in the project would provide long-term social and economic benefits to Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.

"These beautiful new premises will allow the Club to host large functions, attract more visitors and more members, which means stronger support for the Club's vital lifesaving services," Mr O'Brien said.

"In addition to ensuring public safety, this will enhance Sunshine Beach's strong reputation as a tourism destination, creating a flow-on benefit for local accommodation providers and retailers.

"The new Surf Life Saving Club is built to become a vibrant hub of community activity, hosting sporting, social and recreational activities for the club's 3000 members and supporting many other community groups.

"This project has employed 30 workers during construction and supports at least six ongoing jobs, so it is a long-term investment in the economic future of the Noosa region."

This project received $2.5 million in funding from the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government under the Building Better Regions Fund – an $841 million investment designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.

Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Inc. also contributed $5 million to the project.
