Stockland Aura Community Grants recipients 2019

Ten community groups on the Sunshine Coast will share in more than $300,000 worth of funding, announced today under Stockland’s 2019 Aura Community Grants program.

The grants, ranging from $1,500 to $50,000, were delivered at a special ceremony at Aura, with the funding to aid valuable community activities from festivals and parenting courses to beach clean-ups and conservation work, as well as helping young surf lifesavers obtain vital gear and qualifications.

Representatives from Stockland, the State Government, Sunshine Coast Council and local community groups joined State Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle, State Member for Glass House Andrew Powell, Sunshine Coast Council Deputy Mayor Tim Dwyer and Cr Peter Cox at Aura this morning (27 June) for the official announcement of recipients at the newly opened Baringa Community Centre.

Mark Stephens, Senior Environment and Community Development Manager at Stockland, said the biannual Aura Community Grants program – delivered in partnership with Good 2Give - aimed to support the many local groups and organisations working tirelessly to make the community a better place.

“This year we have distributed $304,830 in funding to a diverse range of organisations and we are delighted to be able to assist the very valuable roles they play in our local community,’’ Mr Stephens said.

“The response to the program has been outstanding and follows on from the delivery of $285,000 worth of funding in its first round in 2017, reflecting Stockland’s commitment to building strong communities.’’

The program will see approximately $5 million of funding delivered to local organisations throughout the duration of the construction of the Aura community.

Tomas Passeggi, Community Development Coordinator at the Baringa Community Centre, said his organisation would use a $50,000 grant to fund a broad array of initiatives over the next two years, including parenting classes, community arts projects, playgroups and workshops.

“The grant is a valuable contribution and will go a long way to establishing a thriving  new Community Centre, which has been designed to become a hub of the neighbourhood  by connecting people and responding to their specific needs,’’ Mr Passeggi said.

This year’s grants program, launched in February, invited community organisations and not for profit groups delivering services in Caloundra North, Caloundra South and the Glasshouse Country areas to apply for a grant.

The funding can be used for a one-off project, or to deliver an ongoing project or service, with two types of grants available – $1,000 to $5,000, and $5,001 to $50,000.

The Aura Community Grants program is a commitment outlined in Stockland’s Infrastructure Agreement for Aura. The Infrastructure Agreement is a collaboration between the Sunshine Coast Council, the State Government and Stockland that will see Stockland invest more than $1.3 billion in local infrastructure over the life of the Aura project.

Recipients of the 2019 Aura Community Grants funding are: Beerburrum State School P&C Association, Heart Coherence Village, Inclusion Plus Family Support, Celebrate Glasshouse Country, Queensland Oztag, Conservation Volunteers Australia, FESTURI – A Multicultural Celebration, Hear and Say Centre for Deaf Children, Metropolitan-Caloundra Surf Life Saving Club and Caloundra Community Centre.
Aura is the largest masterplanned community ever undertaken in Australia under single ownership.

Upon completion in the next 30 years, Aura will be home to 50,000 residents and comprise 20,000 new homes, two business parks, 10 sporting grounds, 25 community facilities, 20 school/education facilities, 700 hectares of conservation and park areas and 200 kilometres of cycle ways and walking paths.
