Football Queensland (FQ) is bringing a free Yeh The Girls Gala event to the Sunshine Coast next Thursday, 13 June to give women and girls the opportunity to give football a go in a social setting.

To celebrate the Westfield Matildas heading to France for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, FQ will host Yeh The Girls Gala events across the state, including next week’s event at Noosa Lions FC on the Sunshine Coast.

Women and girls (12+) are invited to bring a female companion along for a free social 5-a-side mini kick about, regardless of whether they’ve played football before.

FQ Women & Girls Development Officer Kerry Hammersley said the gala events are the perfect opportunity for girls to get a taste of football in a social setting.

“Not everyone has had the opportunity to give football a go and sometimes the thought of playing in an 11-a-side competition can be quite daunting, particularly if you haven’t played before,” Hammersley said.

“The Yeh The Girls Gala events present us with a chance to try the game or to help to introduce someone new to the sport.”

With a focus on fun and participation, the two hour celebration galas are open to women and girls of all skill levels, and those who have never played before are encouraged to come along and give football a go with a friend or relative.

Registrations for the Yeh The Girls Gala event in Sunshine Coast can be made via the FQ website.
