The reputation of the Sunshine Coast as a destination for arts has taken another exciting leap forward with Performing Arts Connections Australia announcing that the 2019 Performing Arts Conference (PAC) and the National Performing Arts Exchange (PAX) will be held at The Events Centre Caloundra next year.

Sunshine Coast Council, Visit Sunshine Coast and The Events Centre Caloundra are all major presenting partners in hosting the 2019 conference from August 25-29 to coincide with the Horizon Festival 2019.

The conference is acknowledged as one of the most significant annual gatherings of performing arts professionals anywhere in Australia, attracting between 400 and 500 delegates, as well as an array of national and international guest speakers.

Deputy Mayor Cr Tim Dwyer said securing the conference was a coup for the region and our growing reputation as an arts and cultural destination.

“The Performing Arts Conference and the National Performing Arts Exchange will provide a significant economic and cultural contribution to the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Council’s vision is for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative, and hosting Australia’s leading performing artists and arts managers during the Horizon Festival will really put us on the cultural map.”

During PAX (August 25-26) producers pitch their upcoming and tour-ready works for the coming year. It is the only opportunity for presenters and producers to convene at the national level each year.

The PAC conference (August 27-28) is regarded as the most significant gathering of performing arts professionals each year and includes a program of professional development and inspirational speakers, as well as the annual Drover Awards for excellence in performing arts touring.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said hosting the conference provided an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with an exceptional range of visiting delegates.

“The PAX conference is a highlight on the arts sector calendar and brings with it considerable industry kudos,” Cr Baberowski said.

“The conference will bring some of the industry’s best here to our region, which is an incredible opportunity to showcase what the Sunshine Coast has to offer the arts sector, particularly during Horizon Festival which will give delegates the chance to immerse themselves in our creative culture.”
