Caloundra Regional Gallery’s new multi-purpose, indoor-outdoor dedicated public program and workshop space, The Artroom, welcomed its first workshop with current exhibiting artist Laith McGregor today (March 9).

Images from the 2017 awards: Silvereye by Pete Evans; Bulcock Beach by Simon BeedleCaloundra Regional Gallery has unveiled a new space - The Artroom - today after closing at the end of January to undergo renovations.

A fantastic new multi-purpose, indoor-outdoor dedicated public program and workshop space, The Artroom allows the gallery to offer a wider variety of programs, events and workshops.

Gallery curator Hamish Sawyer said public programs were an important way to engage audiences with an exhibition.

“With any gallery exhibition, public programs such as artist talks and creative workshops, are a great way to explore the inspiration behind the artist’s work and give workshop participants the opportunity to develop new skills,” Mr Sawyer said.

The first workshop in The Artroom today (March 9) with current exhibiting artist Laith McGregor was sold out.

Kids and families will get their first chance to experience The Artroom on Saturday, March 17 at Art Attack.

Also themed around Laith McGregor’s work, kids will have fun making Crazy Hair Portraits, where they will start by making a simple portrait drawing and then experiment with straw painting to add some crazy hair.

Art Attack runs from 11am – 1pm on the first and third Saturday of every month. It’s a gold coin donation per person to participate and no bookings are required.

The gallery renovations also includes increased retail space for visitors to buy beautiful,  local artisan products at  the Gallery Store and a dedicated space to house Sunshine Coast Art Collection works and works on loan for gallery exhibitions.
