The report grabbed serious media attention – dominating headlines and newsfeeds across the country. And it caught the public imagination, with our petition to defend our ABC's independence reaching over 53,000 people in electorates right around the country.
Everyone was talking about it – even Walkley award-winning ABC veteran Quentin Dempster, and Sydney Morning Herald journo, Tim Elliott.
And to spread the word even wider, we got our friends at Juice Media to produce a 'surprisingly honest and informative ad' that is sure to ruffle a few feathers in Canberra.
Warning: the video contains crude language. But, if you wish, you can click here to watch it.
But the best part? 8,600 of you personally emailed copies of our damning report to your local Coalition MPs and Senators to put them on notice. And a few cheeky Bananas even showed up at their offices to deliver the report in person.😉🍌
In the face of the gravest threat to our ABC's independence, our incredible movement stood up, fought back, and proved that political intimidation is no match for people power. Together, we've shown just how much overwhelming public support there is for a truly independent public broadcaster.
We wanted to take a moment to thank you for getting us this far.
But the fight is far from over. Morrison will handpick the new Chair any day now.
And with the Coalition staring down the possibility of years in opposition, they're going to want to corrupt the ABC as much as possible while they still can.
Together, we'll send Morrison a message that'll carry right through to Election day – if you attack our ABC's independence, you'll pay at the ballot box.
