Australia’s only Certified Green hair and beauty salon will officially launch its innovative offerings at a special event this week. Penny Black Organic - based on the Sunshine Coast - is attracting the interest and accolades of international industry experts.

Dr. David Lewis - a professor at University of Leeds in the UK - is engaged in numerous research projects to improve the industries standard in hair colour and beauty products and has been influencing research into hair colouration in Europe.

“The one thing which is important to me is the ‘cleaner, greener, safer’ motto” Professor Lewis said.

“Penny Black Organic brings this ethos to life - and is at the forefront of an international revolution towards beginning the demise of demise of oxidative hair dyeing in Australia”.

Penny Black salon is Australia’s first and only green certified salon offering clients a holistic alternative to hair care and beauty treatments that comply with the Nordic Green Salon Certification - an authentic certification that recognises treatments that are ‘green’.

All products are non-toxic and minimal chemical product ensures that the products are a leading example for ‘organic’ hair coloring and beauty treatments.

Founder of Penny Black Organic Nanette Barter believes ethical accreditation is not only the right thing to do for the environment but also have significant benefits for industry professionals and clients.

“We are unique in that we do not use ‘permanent’ oxidation colouring methods when colouring human hair,” Nanette said.

“There is scientific evidence that these methods are hazardous to human health and have long lasting effects over time to not just clients, but hair and beauty professionals who handle the products.”

In an age of health and environmentally conscious consumers, the choice to use sustainable and ecologically friendly products is a smart investment for the future for the hair and beauty industry.

“Professionals have the opportunity to make a change in the industry and become experts and advocates of green practice,” Professor Lewis said.

“Eventually, more professionals in the industry will move away from traditional products that include harmful chemicals. “

Penny Black will celebrated its official launch on Thursday 3 May.
