One thing’s for sure, the Christmas spirit is in the air.
That was evident last weekend when hundreds of locals gathered for the North Shore Community Centre’s annual Christmas celebration.
The fun and free activities ranged from a jumping castle, a wildlife show and turtle talk with Marcoola and Coolum Coastal Care, face painting and DIY Christmas arts and crafts. Everyone got into the celebratory mood and centre co-ordinator Shannon Embery was once again the creator with an amazing team of volunteers of a program that had something for everyone.
“The centre was a buzz with excitement and were thrilled so many from our North Shore community took time out to start their Festive Season with us,” Shannon said.
“Engaging with our community in celebrating the joy of Christmas in a safe, fun and friendly environment is what this event is all about. Our motto is Be involved, be inspired, and be connected and to reduce social isolation in our community. By bringing our community together for our annual celebration we aim to strengthen existing networks or create new networks between, neighbours, community groups, local businesses and individuals of our area,” she added.
The event was topped off with the arrival of Santa by helicopter, thanks to a ride from Becker Helicopters. Live Entertainment took place in the outdoor garden stage throughout the day showcasing local community, sporting and educational groups.
Gift stalls lined the centre adding to the market style atmosphere and the Maroochy North Shore Lions fundraised with a sausage sizzle and burgers. Locals brought along gift and place it under a Christmas tree for IFYS to forward onto families in need this Christmas. Others who are keen in supporting this initiative are welcome to still drop off a wrapped gift to a boy or girl and IFYS will collect them for distribution.
Shannon also took time to thank Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank as major sponsor of the Christmas celebration. Customer Relationship Manager, Mark Gielis said it’s an event everyone looks forward to.
“I think a lot of locals see this event as the start of their Christmas season. I’m delighted we were able to support the event again this year and so many came along and to celebrate,” Mark shared.
Other local businesses digging deep to sponsor the event, include: Sunshine Coast Council, North Shore Realty, Maroochy North Shore Realty, Gone Bonkers Pacific Paradise, Sunshine Coast Printing and Distribution Services and Becker Helicopters.
