The Reef doesn't have a voice. But you do.

"If we don't act within the next 10 years on climate change...the outlook for the Great Barrier Reef is poor"1

This was the plea from North Queensland tourism workers to their local MP in response to a damning new report2. The climate-driven decline of the Reef's health which they see everyday could take away their livelihoods.

But there's a real risk the shocking news and these people's plea will soon be forgotten, unless we join together now and speak up.

The voices of Queenslanders and Reef communities matter. And right now, politicians are at home, flicking through the local papers to get a sense of what those voices are asking for before they head back to Canberra next week.

Will they see a letter from you on the need to protect our Reef from climate change?

Yes! I'll take 5 minutes to speak up for the Reef in my local paper!

Politicians use local papers as a trusted barometer to sense what issues locals care about. It's the perfect opportunity to make your voice heard.

Together, we can make sure the Morrison government cannot sweep this under the rug. Together, we can prevent them from burying the story of the climate crisis to keep their coal donors happy.

When the Morrison government tries to silence the real threat to the Reef, we will bring it to light.

We've made it easy - simply click here, find your local paper on the list, and write down why you want real climate action to protect the Reef.

Reading about what climate change is doing to the Reef is hard. Coral breeding cycles are collapsing, currents are shifting by hundreds of kilometres, corals are becoming less resilient to increasing storms, and the Reef's health has been downgraded to "very poor" for the first time ever2.

But it's important to remember that there is still time to stop irreversible damage to the Reef. In the words of the scientists who wrote the report: "actions taken now will matter."

We can ensure future generations get to experience the Reef's wonder. We can ensure future scientists are inspired by its biodiversity. We can ensure First Nations culture lives on through its songlines.

There is still time - all we need is the political will.

Will you submit a letter to your local paper to show Queensland politicians they have a mandate to speak up for the Reef in Parliament?

For the Reef,
