The famous athlete, Pele once said;
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice and most of all, a love for what you are doing".
Whatever the sporting code or life path, those words are being put into practice at Coolum District Netball Club. They keep attracting and developing great athletes who training hard to represent the North Shore all over Queensland.
It was only beck in 2005 that the club began participating in any competitions outside of Coolum. Last month, Coolum Netball had five representative teams travel to Ipswich for the 2018 Nissan State Championships. Representative co-ordinator Megan Gale said the girls lifted for the occasion and came home with some fantastic results.
"We're extremely proud of all our teams, coaches, managers, foodies, support staff and umpires. We have all worked together to achieve the following amazing results. Our Under 12 placed 17th in the State, our Under 13 Black placed 18th and our Under 13 Pink placed 53rd. On top of that, our Under 14's finished 20th and our Under 15's finished up in 18th spot," Megan shared.
There were 44 Associations and 64 teams competing in each age group.
"These results from our small association really are a fantastic achievement. We were also ranked 6th overall in the Performance Awards and 23rd overall in the Championships. Everyone involved should be very proud. All of the girls were an absolute pleasure to look after over the five days we were away and we now look forward to enjoying another great rep season next year," she said.
Megan added the results are great examples of what can be achieved when local business supports its community.
"Without the support of local business such as Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank and our other sponsors we would not have the growth and development of the association and we certainly wouldn't be able to maintain the high standard we have set ourselves," Megan said.
Kerryn Vincart from Marcoola Community Bank branch was there to wave goodbye to the girls when they headed off and like many of the other local sponsors and said the branch is proud to play its part in assisting the development of so many young ladies.
"Returning banking profits to clubs just like Coolum and District Netball is what we're all about," Kerryn enthused.
"To see these young players joining the representative program is fantastic. The netball association is continuing to provide a great facility for the youth in our community and we all look forward to seeing more of them in the future. Who knows, we may be looking at future Lightning or Australian Diamonds right here in Coolum?" she added.
