Time for Palaszczuk to deliver for Sunshine Coast

Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie, today called on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to provide funding in tomorrow’s budget to fast-track the third stage of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, deliver critical road infrastructure projects, and install air conditioning in all state school classrooms.

Pointing to the fact that more than one third of patients admitted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital’s emergency department last month weren’t seen within clinically recommended times, Mr Bleijie said more funding was needed to increase the number of beds and support the hardworking doctors, nurses and clinicians.

Mr Bleijie also said his Road Delay-No Way! campaign, which attracted thousands of petition signatures by local residents and was tabled in Parliament, demonstrated the importance of improved road infrastructure to Sunshine Coast locals.

“Since forming government in 2015, Annastacia Palaszczuk has refused to fund any critical road infrastructure projects like the Mooloolah River Interchange, Caloundra Road upgrade and Parklands Boulevard upgrade,” he said.

Mr Bleijie said he has been very vocal, both in Parliament and the community, about his concerns around the lack of investment and foresight into road infrastructure on the Sunshine Coast.

“At the last two elections, the LNP has committed to delivering the Mooloolah River Interchange and other significant road projects to ease congestion on Nicklin Way and support the growth of our region.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk and her Minister Mark Bailey are sticking their heads in the sand on the matter of road and transport infrastructure.

Mr Bleijie also called on the Palaszczuk Government to match the LNP’s commitment to fund air conditioning for all state school classrooms.

“Students, teachers and staff have been suffering in hot classrooms for too long,” he said.

“While the Premier, politicians and even prisoners enjoy climate controlled comfort, our students and teachers slug it out in 40C classrooms.

“The LNP has listened to the concerns of parents, teachers and P&C’s over the temperatures in the classrooms – it’s time Annastacia Palaszczuk matched our commitment and delivered the funding in tomorrow’s budget.”
