Time to stop talking trash and support Queensland recycling

The vision to boost onshore plastic recycling outlined by Prime Minister Scott Morrison this week puts Queensland in the box seat to capitalise on our largely untapped waste and recycling resource.

While visiting the Sunshine Coast today, LNP Shadow Minister for Environment David Crisafulli said Waste Free Systems is the kind of business that all Government's should be encouraging.

“Here is a business turning waste into prosthetic limbs for children,” Mr Criasfulli said.

“It's the perfect example of how we can take real action to improve the environment in a sustainable way.

"It is refreshing to see a local business dedicated to helping other businesses reduce their impact on the environment, while at the same time doing something positive for their community.

“It is important that all levels of Government support these sorts of initiatives.

“Only Victoria sends more waste overseas than Queensland.

"If Labor are serious about taking responsibility for the environment it's time to get on with the job of dealing with the mountain of plastic waste that grows bigger every day.

“The Palaszczuk Government needs to stop playing politics and start working with the Federal Government in the interests of all Queenslanders.

"Supporting industry is more than just a photo opportunity. Labor need to step up and take tangible action to support Queensland businesses as they design more sustainable solutions and recover materials before they enter the environment."

LNP Member for Buderim Brent Mickelberg said the need to reduce the environmental impacts of consumer packaging and improve our recycling systems has never been more evident.

“For many years now, we've seen an exponential increase in the consumption of plastic products that are designed for short-term single use,” Mr Mickelberg said.

“As a society we have to do better".
