If you are lucky enough to live on the Sunshine Coast or visit regularly – you would certainly have been lucky enough to be involved in the Bruce highway 'carparks' that can occur on weekends and holidays.

Before setting off on your trip check in with the Transport and Main Roads on 13 19 40 (either by phone or on the internet) and see how the traffic conditions are.

Unfortunately there are times where we just can't avoid the congestion and it is important to wait for long periods on the roads.

Here are a few things to think about before setting off your trip:

  • Call 13 19 40;
  • Make sure that you have water for the trip dehydration can impact on your driving ability and the welfare of you and family in the car;
  • Consider games or movies to keep children occupied during delays;
  • Consider any pets that might be travelling with you – they should be safely secured but also if you are thirsty then they probably are too.

Be patient and courteous on the roads these holidays, remember to merge safely and plan ahead!
