The 25m pool at the Coolum Aquatic Centre is undergoing planned refurbishment works as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s ongoing commitment to providing quality community recreation venues.

While the pool has been drained for the retiling works, a series of leaks have been identified within the pool shell.  These have required investigation, appropriate waterproofing and repair.  At times throughout the project works, these leaks have been exasperated by tidal water ingress given the pool’s proximity to the coastal environment.

As Coolum Aquatic Centre is an important community facility and the longer term nature of the current retiling works, council needs to ensure the project is delivered to the manufacturer’s specifications, including adherence to the recommended cure times. To refill the pool without repairs being fully finalised would jeopardise the retiling and the integrity of the pool, potentially resulting in future closures and shutdowns for ongoing leak repairs.

To minimise occurrences of future disruptions it is anticipated the 25m pool will be closed for a further four weeks (dependent on weather) to allow for the additional repairs and filling of the pool.

Please note the centre will remain open during this time for swimming lessons and general access to the program pool.

Sunshine Coast Council and the centre manager apologise for any inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.

The completed works will provide a greatly improved facility that includes a retiled surface and an additional swimming lane.
