We Need To Fight

Australian Government Equality Political

Marriage equality can and should be a unifying moment for our country. But rather than doing their jobs and voting in Parliament, this Government has decided to delay, distract and divide Australia. They have decided to waste $122 million of taxpayers' money on an unnecessary and unacceptable postal opinion poll.

We have to do everything we can to stop them: Chip in to fund our legal challenge and tell your friends to join the fight.

A vote in Parliament is easy. All we need is for our politicians to do their jobs, for which they are paid handsomely. Instead, this Government has decided to waste an obscene amount of money on a farcical 'postal plebiscite', all to avoid dealing with some internal party conflict.

They are behaving as if they are a law unto themselves — hijacking our proud, strong system of representative democracy all because a few of their elected members don't like LGBTI people.

This is unacceptable: We need to raise our voices loudly and make that known. Chip in to fund our legal challenge and tell your friends to join the fight.

How can an elected Government put the majority of Australians in this position? The rights of Australians have been held hostage by a small minority of angry voices. We need to fight this quickly and forcefully.

Right now, we are preparing to seek an injunction to stop the postal plebiscite and will launch a legal challenge when we know the full details.

A national vote on the rights of LGBTI Australians is not, never was, and never will be okay. And given that, a national, voluntary, non-binding postal survey on the rights of LGBTI people is utter madness. This Government has put Australia in a terrible position.

We need to take this on, to do everything we can to stop this madness. Help us mount a challenge against this awful proposal.

This fight is about equality: Equality for all couples who want the right to marry, and also equality in the process. Our political system should be based on a level playing field for all Australians. Instead, this Government has singled out one group of Australians and said: 'Your rights need to be decided in a different way to the rest of Australia'.

But we will keep fighting. Over the last few months, hundreds of thousands of Australians have taken action for marriage equality. This Parliament needs to get on, do its job, vote for marriage equality and deliver on the will of the Australian people. We will keep taking action until this is true.

Thanks for all you do,

Alex Greenwich
