Well that was a surprise

With the shock election result over the weekend many of you may be feeling disappointed, angry or even scared. Wherever you stand on the political spectrum it's hard to swallow having a PM with such a poor track record on LGBTIQ+ rights.

Whilst we don't yet know the final make-up of the Parliament, we do know that for the next three years we have a huge fight on our hands. It's never been more important that we stand together as a community, to build a movement that is strong and ready to fight.

Help us build a movement ready to protect the rights we've won and to demand equality for all of us.

The anti-LGBTIQ+ Australian Christian Lobby is claiming the election was a victory for religious freedom. They, and other religious conservatives have already done so much damage to our communities and we cannot let them use this election result as a mandate for prejudice and bigotry.

It's important to remember that this election wasn't a referendum on LGBTIQ+ rights. We have friends in Parliament and allies in every part of the community. We know the majority of Australia is with us.

We already know that 72% of Australians believe that gay and trans kids and teachers don't deserve discrimination at school. We need to translate this support into action. We need to change the law so that LGBTQ students and teachers can be safe at school.

If the weekend has left scratching your head and asking 'what can I do?' - here are some ways you can help us.

In 2017 we worked together to achieve marriage equality. We shaped Australia as a fairer and more equal nation. Supporters and allies stood up for their friends, their workmates, their colleagues and their school mates.

We won't let Australia turn into a country that pits minority against minority, ruled by a politics of fear and division.

We can stand up again, and we must.

Thanks for getting on board.
