Council staff and contractors have returned to Coolum at first light this morning (October 25) and successfully removed a whale carcass from Third Bay.

The carcass was towed from the beach out to sea at approximately 6am.  Due to the state of decomposition, it is expected that the carcass will sink into the ocean within the next 24 hours.

Beachgoers are asked to avoid the rocks at Third Bay, as the rocks have become very slippery overnight.

Please follow advice and instruction of Coolum Surf Life Savers regarding beach access.

Council officers will monitor the beach and remove any smaller pieces of the carcass which may wash ashore during the incoming tides.

If members of the public notice any pieces of debris we ask that they contact council on 5475 7272.
