Message from the CEO

Making a difference in the community

I am proud of the many projects thatRDA Sunshine Coast (RDASC) has led, supported and advocated for in the first

Quarter of 2019; we are activelyworking on and promoting importantprograms and events which havelasting benefits for the Sunshine Coast community.

In this Quarterly Report to the Region,Q1: January-March, 2019, you’ll seethat RDASC strongly backed the SEQ City Deal, which will see the threelevels of government unite to deliver a $58 billion boost to the region’seconomy over the next 25 years, according to KPMG.

We also provided significant grantassistance to community groups whosuccessfully applied for a combined $2.72 million in Federal Governmentfunding in round three of the BuildingBetter Regions Fund (BBRF). We held our first event for the year, which connected local businesses and community groups with competitive government grant and funding opportunities - and we partnered withprominent corporate events such as the Chamber Alliance’s Powering Business to the World and the SunCoast Angels launch – both of which were geared atboosting investment and innovation inthe region.

This quarter also saw us leverage ournational network of 52 RDAs, 12 ofwhich are here in Queensland, throughour increased collaboration with sevenother RDAs throughout SoutheastQueensland and northern New South Wales at a joint gathering.

This gave us the opportunity to shareand apply key regional developmentprinciples, activities and data to ourown key focus areas of integratedtransport and promoting opportunitiesfrom the Sunshine Coast Airport
expansion and the InternationalSubmarine Broadband Cable.

There’s never been a better or moreexciting time to be based on theSunshine Coast, with the upcomingInternational Broadband SubmarineCable at Maroochydore in 2020 reallyputting us on the map with Australia’sfastest telecommunications connectionto Asia and the second fastest to theUnited States.

At the RDA, it’s our role to identify localpriorities, align resources, engagestakeholders and promote solutions tostrengthen and build the region. Andwe feel honoured to be performing suchmeaningful work for the future of theCoast, which has such an exciting andambitious future. There is still much work needed to bedone.

Thank you for your valued inputand support as we work towardschange, innovation and improvement.
