#WorldSuicidePreventionDay

Published:

Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australians aged between 15 and 34 and the Sunshine Coast actually has a higher than average rate of suicide which is why it is important for us to acknowledge days like today.

We have days like RU OK? day and World Suicide Prevention Day to try and remove stigma, create an open discourse about suicide and mental health and reach out to people in our community. Suicide is one of the most preventable forms of death but is still a critical public health problem worldwide.

If you would like to know more about how you can help friends, family or just be a better prepared individual in the community there are plenty of resources online you can check out (Beyond Blue, Lifeline, Black Dog Institute and more) and The Alliance for Suicide Prevention - Sunshine Coast holds workshops on the Sunshine Coast for members of the community to attend.

If you or someone you know is experiencing distress, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or visit lifeline.org.au
