Your Help Needed to Extend the Evictions Moratorium

Published:

As you are probably aware the Queensland Government recently announced their intent to end the evictions moratorium for COVID-19 affected residential renters on 29/9/2020. At the same time, the government have decided to extend the moratorium for commercial tenancies (to December 31).

At Make Renting Fair we're very concerned about this situation. Many people who rent their homes have lost significant income due to COVID-19 and are struggling to make ends meet. These people will be in danger of losing their home before Christmas if the evictions moratorium is ended. The COVID-19 crisis is not over and it is important that people have safe and secure homes if they're required to self-isolate or stay at home.

Western Australia, Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria have all committed to extending their moratoriums and we are calling on the State Government to extend protections for vulnerable Queenslanders by extending the evictions moratorium for residential tenants to December 31.

If you think the evictions moratorium for COVID-19 affected families  and households should be extended please follow this link to email the Premier and Housing Minister.  Call on them to extend the same protections to vulnerable Queensland renters as they have to commercial tenants.
