The Editors Desk!
Elections Again UGH! Politics, sometimes a nasty word, that can cause all sorts of arguments. This year seems to have been a big one for Elections of all sorts, and now we are rounding off the group with the Federal Elections. As you know, we are very non political here at www.mysunshinecoast.com.au, though we are of course extremely pro Sunshine Coast. Bearing that in mind, please consider your vote...

The media would like us to think that this election is all about 2 main political contenders, though call me naive, but, the whole purpose of our Federal Political system of representation, is that areas such as ourselves which are Rural or Semi-Rural in nature, have our Representatives so that we also have a voice in Parliament, not just the big cities. The important word here is "Representation".

Remember... Whatever Electorate you are in here on the Coast, the people who are asking for your vote, are in reality asking you to "allow them the privilege" of representing you personally in the Federal Arena (your taxes are paying for this too...) So before you believe the media hype about the Election, get back to the grass roots of democracy, and while we still have time before we have to vote, think about the following in relation to your candidates... Do they know or care about the particular issues or problems facing your area? Have they been actively involved in your area and trying to improve the issues you are concerned about? Have you only seen your sitting representative when there is a photo opportunity but not much else? You still have time to ask these questions, and particularly for new voters, maybe now is the time to do it?

A wise person once said, "You only have the right to complain about Politics when you have taken a step to change it", this is your vote!

Best Regards, Noely
