Anzac Day
Anzac Day is nearly upon us and with it being a special anniversary for them, having our troops in Iraq, and the poor souls who died in the recent helicopter accident it is a good time for everyone to reflect upon what Anzac Day means to us all.

I have to admit being very proud of my 10 year old daughter who was aware that Monday was not just a day off school it actually did have some significance. Though I do wonder how many other young people who have not really been affected by war, or had the benefit of their grandparents wisdom who were affected both overseas and here at home, understand the significance that past generations of armed services have had on the lifestyle we all enjoy today?

There is a lot of media in regard to the armed services at the moment, both good & bad, we all have a view on our services being stationed in Iraq, but please remember that the actual men & women serving in the armed forces have not been party to these decisions and are just doing the best job that they can under difficult circumstances. It is a common young persons misconception that Veterans are men from world war II and older, (if you ask my daughter that is), and yes these style of men are no longer plentiful, though there are others out there who have defended our country, sometimes willingly, sometimes not, and even though we may not all have a friend or relative who is or was in the Armed Forces anymore, we still cannot forget them, and they deserve our respect and gratitude.

So please, if you see funds being raised for our veterans, support these causes. There are a number of Anzac Day services around the coast (if I don't have yours onsite, contact me). Just visiting your local RSL Club for a drink will not necessarily help these veterans, RSL Sub Branch Fundraising, buying a badge, supporting the Event we have featured onsite this newsletter will! AND if you have your kids or grandkids with you when you buy that badge, give them a little unsolicited history lesson while your at it :)
