The Sunshine Coast's Own Feature Film on DVD
We are very proud to be able to help promote this awesome DVD 'Sunshine Odyssey', it is absolutely stunning and proof that supporting our Community Organisations like artSynC can result in excellent collaborative efforts. We know there are an awful lot of you expats and Sunshine Coast devotees out there on our Newsletter, so have a look, it would be the perfect gift for that homesick Coaster, or just the overseas relative who wants to brag about how good their home is. (as we do!).

To celebrate the availability of 'Sunshine Odyssey', we are giving away a copy to one lucky Newsletter Sign Up. Anyone already on our Newsletter is of course in the running as well, as always. Sign Up Now!

The Editors Desk!
Website Scams
e love being on the Internet and promoting the Sunshine Coast on the Net, using a World Wide tool to bring awareness to our own Community, Businesses and Happenings, BUT it is disappointing when so many people get turned off being involved in the Internet due to Scammers & Spammers :(

We have talked about Security previously, and the same advice applies again... Use commonsense! If someone is offering you a new beaut website for under $500 including hosting blah blah..., check it out very very carefully and get 3rd party advice. In any transaction you make that old addage "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is", is just as pertinent in on-line dealings. You don't purchase a car without checking the reliability of the company, the warranty, can you get it serviced, how much will maintenance cost etc. The same applies with purchasing a website, get good advice and do your homework!

Spamming is the same, you get all these 'wonder' programmes to stop spam, but check, how much of your real mail are they also stopping, is setting up the programme and the cost of it really cheaper than using your finger to delete?? We have Australian Spam Laws, alas, 99.9% of Spam comes from overseas, making our Laws here pretty redundant. Would be nice for our Government to actually use their buddy relationship with the US to help in this aspect.... BUT the moral of the story is again, use Commonsense, don't spend a fortune on software to stop spam that also stops you receiving legitimate mail, or takes too much time to get working as that is just not cost effective. Your trusty delete finger in many cases is way cheaper, attached to your own brain to discern what is legit & what is not, & often more effective.

We understand that many aspects of the 'Net' are new for many of you, if there is a certain area of this brave new world that you have always been confused about, let us know, we can look into it and maybe do the next article on it. If you were confused, maybe others were as well and can learn from the knowledge :)

Best Regards, Noely, Community Site Co-ordinator
