Iolanthe Giveaway
How appropriate is this classic at the moment, I am sure we would love Fairies to be taking on Parliament at the moment... Iolanthe is a thoroughly enjoyable musical and Noosa Arts have given us a double pass for the 10th of November, to give away to one lucky ''Coast News' member! To be in with a chance just send in an email to thehat with Fairy in the subject line. Best of Luck!

Dumb & Dumber

How dumb is the average Australian? Obviously we are a country of morons needing to be told messages repeatedly, god forbid that we might actually remember something we are told...

Put up your hand if you have heard any of the following catch phrases more then 10 times: economic policy, interest rates, tax cuts, working families, plan for the future, record unemployment, uncertain future, union dominated, strong economy, blame game, economic conservative, I could go on, but I have already bored myself stupid...

I know politics is a very serious topic, BUT, am I the only one who is sick to death of being told the same stuff over & over & over again? Our household is getting to stage where instead of actually listening to the debates we are scoring the times we hear the catchphrases & marking the winner as the one who got in more catchphrases.

I do have a couple of favourites, love the 'Strong Economy', and every other word they use for strong (obviously had the thesaurus working overtime on that one), I realise that we should be pleased with that, it bodes well for business in this country and the obvious flow on effects that has, though when being silly, all I picture is a big old fashioned strongman (Costello's head on him of course), holding up Australia with the surplus as a heap of cash in the middle of it. My other fave is 'Working Families'. Yep, we work long hours, but the whole family doesn't, if Rudd gets in can get my daughter to work for us as slave labour? The whole 'Family' would be working then?

I know I am making light of a serious topic, and it is probably inappropriate, though think about this... If your child was to tell you the same thing over & over again, you would get the hand going giving them a wind up, or reprimand them, telling them to speak properly if they want to have a conversation with you? In actual fact, any mother knows that to pay heed to a toddler demanding the same thing repeatedly just encourages that bad behaviour and we try to kick it out of them by the time they hit school? Anyone see what is wrong with our 'leaders' doing what we teach toddlers NOT to do?

In all seriousness, we were going to get a list of questions together to ask the candidates in our area, so that we could put them onsite and then you could all compare, helping you to make a decision. Though we are now unsure whether we will actually get 'answers' to questions or just 'rhetoric' and if it is worth the bother? This is your site too, so let us know, do you want any questions put to our candidates, and if so, what questions would you like asked? Half way through the Election Campaigning and this 'half-wit voter' is already jaded, so Your Call?
