Scary Stuff...
I normally love elections, one of the best shows around. I have to admit, considering the enormity of what is about to happen in our area, I am very concerned...
To those candidates that took the time to send in your information for our visitors onsite, thank you very much it is appreciated. Unfortunately some potential candidates, have scared the hell out of me with their attitudes. One prominent council member told me that the Internet was a 'fad' he only bothered with for PR, and a local site was not large enough for him? Well I think that our 85,000 visitors per month might disagree with that? Makes you wonder if the 'piddly few' people in his electorate will be listened to when they have an issue?
Does anyone remember being in an office 10 years ago? How much did you spend in postage, photocopying, stationary, phones & faxing? I know with a travel business, it cost us a deadset fortune. With commercial rents going up every day, fuel becoming a luxury, and other increased costs associated with running an office based business nowadays, if we had those same costs for faxing etc., we would be out of business in regional areas, internet access is a saving grace.
Candidates who ignore modern communications shouldn't be putting their hands up (and there are quite a few of them) to be involved in running, what is akin to, a massive public company? If a candidate thinks the internet is 'too hard' & 'scary', how the hell can they actually run our council, with all the future issues we will have? These people who get in this inaugural council will be setting up our future here on the coast, for our families and for our businesses, don't elect any dinosaurs, even if they are nice 'people', we can't afford that. Your vote this time is more important than the normal council election.
