Message from the Director Regional Development

Capitalising on Major Projects

The RDA Sunshine Coast Committee at its recent meeting finalised the 2018-19 Business Plan for the Organisation. The Plan is based around leveraging the investment of major projects in the region with an overarching objective of profiling the Sunshine Coast as a centre for entrepreneurship. Specific strategies include:

  • Advocating consistently for improved transport to, and within, the region
  • Profiling the region as a destination for entrepreneurs and the benefits of the planned broadband submarine cable
  • Capitalising on opportunities around the expansion of the Sunshine Coast airport
  • Communicating Federal Government programs, grants and other opportunities for local businesses and community groups

Support for Start Ups

The Sunshine Coast is blessed with a great network of support for start ups and more mature business including the Innovation Centre at USC, the newly opened Peregian Digital Hub as well as co-working spaces, business chambers and industry associations.

There are also tailored programs launching soon including Start Up On Ramp Sunshine Coast, aimed at technology start-ups and Grow Coastal, a partnership between the Innovation Centre and the Food and Agribusiness Network to provide 12 food and beverage businesses in the region with the opportunity to take part in a food accelerator program. These are great opportunities to get advice from experienced entrepreneurs and to expand your network.
